Are you ready for the rise of the coffice?
The near future will see the role of the traditional office demoted. As larger offices get increasingly crowded, with competition for hot-desking space intensifying, more and more employees will be looking to get their work done elsewhere – but not necessarily at home.
In addition, there will be a growing number of startups based on models that have very few permanent staff, and instead rely on short-term specialist collaborators.
These trends are giving rise to what’s known as the ‘coffice’ – spaces where people can sit down, sip their flat white and work highly productively, often in relatively short, task-focused bursts.
In our daily lives we’ve also got used to the ability to check emails, texts, Facebook and Twitter anywhere. Connection is constant, communication is always on. This mindset is now spilling over, or enabling, a change at work.
Fewer companies are buying desktop PCs and many more are providing their employees with laptops, and tablets.
